The monastery named after St. George of Tabakini is located 8 km from Zestafoni. The monastery was built in the VII-VIII centuries. It is distinguished by its rich history, architecture, and frescoes of the 16th century. The cathedral is a two-nave basilica, with a bell tower standing near it. Monastic life was developed here in the Middle Ages and 70 monks worked. In the 20s of the 16th century, the ruined monastery was renovated and the temple was painted by the bishop, Gerasime Chkhetidze. The image of King Bagrat III (1510-1565) of Imereti is preserved in the church; The new part of the monastery was built in the 20th century.
