The shrine of St. George, located on Gogni mountain, is a monument of the VII-VIII centuries. This place is not only distinguished by its beauty, the shrine was also a carrier of great grace. As the legend tells us, all the men in the village of Gogni died and no one knew the reason. A resident of the village saw in a dream that you were looking for the cause of your misfortune in the river. Indeed, they took out the icon of St. George from the river and put it on a cart. The bulls climbed to the highest place and stopped there. They built a shrine on that very spot. It is also said that the door of the shrine was hung several times, but it fell every time. That is why it was called “Karugdebeli”( a church without a door). To celebrate St. George’s day, believers start climbing the shrine the night before. During the day, the flow of pilgrims from different regions does not stop. On May 6 thousands of believers visit the holy place.
