Tskhrajvari

Address
Tkhibuli

Mount Tskhrajvari is located at an elevation of 1569 m above sea level, on the border of Imereti and Racha region, near the Nakerala Pass. The mountain has beautiful views that overlook western Georgia. In good weather, one can see the Black Sea, the Colchic lowlands, and the ever-snow-capped peaks of the Caucasus. The shrine of St. George is built here. The construction of the shrine is connected to the legend. According to the legend, 9 sons of one family were sent to the war, and for their peaceful return, their father prayed for his sons. He decided to make a sacrifice and erected nine crosses in this place and built a shrine. His request was heard by God and the nine sons returned unscathed from the war. On the last Saturday of May, the Tskhrajvari festival is celebrated annually. The access path to the Tskhrajvari shrine is up to 2 km long and of medium difficulty, but hiking equipment is recommended. The trail leads along a cliff, so caution is required. In summer, the average temperature here is 18.5 degrees. The distance to Kutaisi is 50 km.
