Vladimir Mayakovsky, a famous Russian poet was born on July 19, 1893, and raised in Georgia. He laid the foundation for Futurism in Russian and world literature. His house museum, hidden in the Imereti Mountains, is located 30 kilometers away from Kutaisi in the Baghdati municipality. He spent his youth there. From 1902 – 1906, he studied at the Kutaisi Classical Gymnasium before his family moved to Russia. His house-museum was opened in the poet’s house in 1940.
